Gyaru Freebies!

Gyaru Wave Hair Style

Hey guys (I suppose gals or should I say… Hey Gyaru Gals!) Sometimes its hard to keep up with all the stuff they come out with in Japan. Which is important because I get bored of a certain look or a certain way of putting up my hair very quickly. Inspiration is the order of the day. You can actually find lots of Gyaru Japanese magazines for download right on the internet, in fact when I do find them I put up a link so that you my readers can download some scans without any hassle! So…I was reading over the recent edition of pop teen and this caught my eye.

Gyaru Wave Hairstyle

The official Japanese name attached to it was something literally called wave hair. I felt that it needed a much funkier name so I shall officially refer to this new style as Gyaru 3-Barrel Wave Hair!

The Gyaru Wave Hairstyle

If you want the gyaru look, than adding curls to your hair is always going to be one of the hairstyles you must know how to pull off. However, with the new Gyaru wave style it adds one more option to choose from! Personally, I like it, kind of reminds me of those dolls that you buy with those blonde hair and the tiniest of curls flowing through it.

So how do we go about styling our hair to get this wave style? With one of these!

3 Level Curling Iron

3 Barrel Curling Iron

The clever people in Japan find a gadget to do anything! Look at that thing, 3 barrels on one curling iron. You could probably lay a slab of beef across the middle and get medium rare in 3 mins.

But I kid… So here is the full article about the gyaru wave hair style from Popteen August 2011.

This seems to me like a pretty easy way to style your hair. However you really need to find that 3 barrel curling iron to do it. I imagine with a small enough diameter curling iron, you could get the same look, however it would take you 3 times longer as you can’t simply curl and wrap your hair around the iron. Remember to get the wave look you need to press each section so that it forms a continuous wave.

Styling Directions

From what I can decipher from the article, you take a thin layer of hair and style starting from the top at the level of the ears right down to the ends of the hair.

You hold the 3 barrel curling iron for about 4 secs on each part as you move down, making sure to keep the waves connecting as you move down the hair. If you apply the 3 barrel curling iron in a random fashion you lose the continuous wave look, making the style look a messy.

For the inner bits of hair that can’t be seen you can randomly apply the 3 barrel curling iron to sections in the middle until you are happy with the look.

When you apply the 3 barrel curler to the ends, you keep the curler on for a little bit longer so that you get more volume and definition.

Where to Get a 3 Barrel Curling Iron?

As for where to find a 3 barrel curling iron, Amazon seems to stock a couple of brands for about $30. This particular one by Revlon seems to have garnered quite a few positive reviews as well!
